Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes it’s Virat Kohli’s time to bag an ICC trophy by winning the upcoming World Test Championship Final in Southampton. Team India will face New Zealand in the marquee clash, which will commence on June 18 at Ageas Bowl. Both teams finished in the top two at the points table and secured the rights to fight for the trophy.

It has been only six years since Virat Kohli is leading the Test team but he has already surpassed others to become the most successful Test captain of India. However, he is yet to win an ICC trophy despite coming close on few occasions.

India were favourites to win the Champions Trophy in 2017 but Pakistan denied Kohli his first ICC trophy. Later on, India were shown the exit doors from the World Cup 2019 in the semi-final by New Zealand.

“This is the ultimate format of cricket and everyone wants to become a Test player and now there’s a World Cup of Test Championship.

“Now there is a chance for Virat Kohli – who has been eluded from the ICC trophy. He has led India in a couple of ICC tournaments, but this is big, winning the Test championship would be a big feather in his cap,” Parthiv told Star Sports.

Ajit Agarkar feels it will be special to win the inaugural edition of the WTC Final and everyone will always remember the first winner.

“It is a big deal. Everyone remembers the first person to get to any sort of landmark and that’s what makes it special. So, to be involved and particularly in the middle when the rules changed, the percentages came into play when India was way ahead at one point, they still had to get the job done. Both teams will be up for it and both teams will be very excited to be a part of it,” said Agarkar.

Team India has landed in England and is undergoing quarantine in Southampton.
