Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has said that young bowler Arshdeep Singh should get a chance in place of either Mohammed Siraj or Shardul Thakur in the third and final ODI against West Indies. However, Arshdeep has played only a solitary T20I on the tour of England but hasn’t donned the national colours since then as well.

In the second ODI, Avesh Khan replaced Prasidh Krishna and made his ODI debut at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad as well, Parthiv Patel backed Arshdeep, claiming that having a left-arm pacer adds a different dimension to the bowling attack as well.

“I would like to see Arshdeep replace someone in the bowling attack, maybe Thakur or Siraj. I want to see how Arshdeep copes with bowling 10 overs in the heat. We have all seen what he can do in T20 cricket. Having a left-handed bowler gives you a slight advantage,” Parthiv Patel was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.

He was also asked about the Indian batters to convert their starts after getting their eyes in as well. He then gave the example of Shai Hope to back his comments. Meanwhile, Hope became the 10th batter to score a century in his 100th ODI, but it came in a losing cause as his side failed to restrict India, especially Axar Patel, who played a stunning knock to help the team win the match by two wickets with two balls to spare as well. However, India are currently leading the three-match series 2-0 with the third match taking place on Wednesday, July 27 in Trinidad.

“The Indian batters are getting starts and playing well, but they should try to convert it as Shai Hope did for West Indies,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
