Australia captain Pat Cummins has backed David Warner in his battle against England’s Stuart Broad and claimed that we would see a different version of the opener in the Ashes 2023 series. Warner has been going through a lean patch in Test cricket recently, having scored just one fifty in his last 17 innings. The 36-year-old had a horrendous time when he visited England for the Ashes in 2019 as Broad had his number.

The English pacer dismissed Warner seven times as the opener managed just 95 runs at an average of 9.5 during the series. The Australian opener did show some form during the World Test Championship final, when he scored 43 in the first innings of the match. England have selected their starting eleven for the Edgbaston Test on Wednesday with Broad being in the lineup.

Speaking to WA Today, Cummins backed Warner to perform well against Broad in their mini-battle during the series, and said the Australian opener would have been thinking about the English pacer over the past four years. Cummins said that we would be seeing a different version of Warner during the 2023 Ashes series.

“I don’t think there’ll be any surprises,” Pat Cummins said. “They’re guys we’ve played a lot and Davey’s I’m sure been thinking about Broad a lot over the last four years and if he got another chance, how he is going to play against him. It didn’t go Davey’s way last time, but I think we’ll see a different Davey this time.”
