Tom Moody applauded Pat Cummins after SRH beat CSK by 6 wickets on Friday, April 5 with ease in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. With the win, SRH moved to fifth in the table with 4 points and a net run rate of +0.409 as well. SRH delivered another batting masterclass at home, where they took on the CSK bowling attack.
However, after the SRH opted to bowl first, Pat Cummins handed the ball to young Abhishek Sharma instead of veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is known to swing the ball both ways. On this, Moody said that Cummins thinks outside of the box as a captain as well.
“The one thing I like about Cummins is he is a bit like MS Dhoni. He is prepared to make a decision that most people don’t think about, but makes you feel like ‘Why didn’t I think about that?’ Like the Abhishek Sharma over. It was quite an odd decision when you look at the other options they could have gone with,” Moody told ESPNcricinfo.
“You have arguably the best new ball bowler in IPL history in Bhuvneshwar Kumar. You have got an off spinner against left-handers. You think Markram would be another one. There was plenty of other ways he could have gone. But he committed to that and it looked like from the get go, he convinced himself that it was the right decision,” he further added.
However, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, April 9 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium at Mullanpur, Chandigarh as well.
