Sunrisers Hyderabad’s left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma has been in outstanding form in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The young batsman has accumulated 467 runs in just 13 matches, boasting an impressive average of 38.91 and a remarkable strike rate of 209.41. His explosive batting has been a crucial factor in SRH’s successful campaign, helping them secure a second-place finish in the league stage with eight wins out of 14 matches.
Following SRH’s pivotal victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19, captain Pat Cummins showered praise on Abhishek for his batting prowess. Chasing a challenging target of 215, Abhishek blasted 66 runs off just 28 balls, setting the stage for an easy four-wicket win for the home side. SRH’s batting lineup has consistently delivered strong performances, with contributions from Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abdul Samad.
“He’s amazing. I wouldn’t want to bowl against him. He’s scary. Nitish is a class player, looks mature beyond his age, he is perfect for the top order. Satisfying. I haven’t played in finals before. Playing some really good cricket, excited for what’s ahead,” Pat Cummins said during the post-match presentation.

Reflecting on SRH’s impressive campaign, Pat Cummins added, “It’s pretty cool, it’s awesome. We have won 6 out of 7 here, it has been great. I didn’t know many guys coming into this season, but we have played great cricket and had some fun.”
With 467 runs already to his name, Abhishek Sharma will be a key player in SRH’s quest for the title as they head into the playoffs. SRH is set to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1 in Ahmedabad on May 21, and Abhishek’s batting form could be the decisive factor.
Abhishek Sharma’s consistent performances have also caught the attention of former India opener Virender Sehwag.

“I love his fearless approach,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz. “He has played an excellent knock again. What has impressed me the most is his consistency. Because with a youngster you don’t expect it. Yes, they would perform in one or two games, but Abhishek has been consistent throughout the tournament and has maintained his strike rate as well. Not many players can hit 28-ball 66. He is leading the six-hitting chart as well. He looks stylish as well,” remarked Sehwag.
