Australia skipper Pat Cummins delivered a moment of sheer brilliance on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada, underlining why he remains one of the most dynamic cricketers in the game. In the ninth over, Cummins struck to dismiss Keacy Carty with a sharp piece of fielding that left fans and teammates in awe.

Bowling a good length delivery that jagged back in sharply, Cummins drew a thick inside edge from Carty. The ball popped up awkwardly toward an area near square mid-wicket — a region with no fielder in place. But Cummins, mid-way through his follow-through, changed direction and sprinted across before flinging himself low to his right and plucking the catch inches from the turf with a single-handed dive.

The third umpire, Nitin Menon, confirmed the dismissal after a quick review, reducing the Windies to 40/2. Despite early promise, West Indies’ batting faltered again. After captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell for a duck and John Campbell was dismissed for 40 by Beau Webster, the hosts found themselves in a familiar position at 64/3 — echoing the collapse from the first Test.

Earlier, the Caribbean bowlers had staged another impressive display. Australia were reeling at 110/5, but a spirited partnership between Beau Webster and Alex Carey, both of whom notched up fighting half-centuries, dragged the visitors to 286. However, the tail didn’t wag, and Australia missed out on pushing past 300.

With West Indies once again under pressure and their batting order wobbling, the challenge to level the series looks steep. If the same errors resurface, they risk falling 2-0 behind in the series.
