The Indians will play five Tests against Australia in the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the country hosting them starting from November 22 in Perth. Besides Perth, the matches are to be staged in major cities like Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Australia has been outplayed in the last four editions of this super-series. They were to concede series honours on home soil for the first time in succession and now will look for a turnaround to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India has dominated their two series against Australia on home turf, by 2-1 each time. But this time, the test for India is sterner, as Australia currently occupies the first position in the current World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The hosts, who have suffered few recent losses, are keen to redeem themselves after back-to-back wins last season in the WTC final and ODI World Cup final against India.

But ahead of the series, it was all excitement and renewed intent by Australian skipper Pat Cummins to turn things around. Speaking in the Press Room of Star Sports, Cummins admitted his team hasn’t been doing well in the past but announced, loud and clear, to India: “We’ve had a bit of a break, so I’m excited for the five-match Test series. We haven’t had much luck against India in recent years, but we always pride ourselves on playing well here in Australia,” Pat Cummins said.

Reflecting on the past losses suffered by Australia, Pat Cummins mentioned that this time it’s ready to correct its wrongs.

He added, “The last two series were a long time ago, and we’ve moved past them. But expectations are always high when we play Test cricket in Australia, and we hold ourselves to those standards. The last series, especially, was tough—it came down to the final session at the Gabba, and we couldn’t pull it off. Many of the same players from that series are still in the team, and we’re determined to set things right.”

The Test captain appointed to Australia in 2021, following Tim Paine’s resignation, has managed to secure the team to only one Test victory against India from three Tests played. He gets an opportunity for redemption on home soil in the series.
