In one such activity, players from Australia’s 13-member squad for the series opener were asked to name their favorite Indian cricketer—someone they would hypothetically slot into their own lineup. The responses offered an intriguing mix of admiration and strategic insight. Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon chose Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli, citing his unmatched skill and ability to deliver under pressure.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh opted for the dynamic Rishabh Pant, highlighting his game-changing potential.  Travis Head’s pick was Indian captain Rohit Sharma, renowned for his elegant stroke play and leadership qualities. Boland, on another occasion, named Jasprit Bumrah, praising the Indian pacer’s skill and adaptability in different conditions.

These selections revealed a deep respect for their Indian counterparts, with each player identifying a rival they admired and would gladly welcome into the Australian camp. However, Pat Cummins’ response stood out for its humour and self-assuredness. When asked, the Australian skipper quipped, “Nah, no one,” in his trademark laid-back style.

Though delivered in jest, the remark underscored his unwavering confidence in his team’s capabilities. Cummins has consistently demonstrated a deep sense of pride in leading Australia and a knack for rising to the occasion in high-pressure matches. One such instance was the 2023 ICC World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Ahead of the clash, Cummins had expressed his eagerness to silence the roaring Indian crowd in Ahmedabad. True to his word, Australia delivered a commanding performance, defeating an unbeaten Indian side to claim the title. That victory epitomized Cummins’ leadership and his team’s resilience, making him a captain who lets his actions speak louder than words.
