Pat Cummins’s mother passes away, Australia players wear black armbands in fourth Test

Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins’s mother Maria passed away on Thursday after a long battle against illness as well. Cricket Australia took to social media to share the bad news of the passing away of Cummin’s mother as it expressed condolences to the cricketer and his family as well.

However, the Australian cricket team wore black armbands as per the mark of respect on Day 2 of the ongoing 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green, the two batters, wore black armbands as they came to resume the Australian innings at 255 for 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium as well. Meanwhile, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald gathered the visiting players before the start of the second day’s play to inform the news of the passing away of Pat Cummins’ mother. Maria died due to breast cancer as well.

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

On the other hand, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) paid condolences to Cummins and his family in a tweet on Friday.

“On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins’s mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period,” the BCCI said as well.
