Pat Howard, the High Performance manager of Cricket Australia (CA), is not going to renew his contract and that means his term with CA will end at the end of 2019 Ashes in England that will be played between August 1 and September 16, 2019.
In October 2011, Howard took his role of High Performance manager of CA after the Don Argus Review. After eight years long journey, Howard will finish his relation with CA at the end of 2019 Ashes series.
In last month, Howard had told News Corp, “It’ll be interesting where that goes, and I don’t know where that’s going. I haven’t had anything to do with it. I’m in charge of men’s and women’s teams and underage teams so I guess if the environment had been the same everywhere, then I would have a different view, but I don’t think [problems] have been consistent across all the teams.”
The 44-year-old Howard was a former Australian rugby union international player who generally played at centre or fly-half. Howard also played a head coach role for Leicester Tigers, the English professional rugby union club based in Leicester (England), between 2005 and 2007.
His decision to not renew the contract has come prior to the Monday release of two separate reviews about Australian cricket culture that has been questioned hugely after the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town Test was exposed.
However, a CA representative has clarified that Howard’s decision to not renew the contract has no connection to the independent cultural reviews.
He said, “Pat had previously indicated that he would not be seeking contract renewal beyond the end of the 2019 Ashes series, when his contract was due to conclude. The decision is his own and is no way connected to the reviews to be released on Monday. A recruitment process will be decided and announced in due course, but there is plenty of time for this to be considered.”
