Pathum Nissanka once again showcased why he is regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s most promising batters, producing a breathtaking knock against India in the final Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium. The 27-year-old opener launched into an aggressive approach right from the first ball, taking on India’s bowlers, including Harshit Rana, with fearless intent.

Chasing a daunting target of 203, Nissanka provided the perfect start Sri Lanka needed. His role for the side mirrored what Abhishek Sharma often does for India—taking the attack to the bowlers early and setting the tone. One of the most enthralling duels of the evening came when Nissanka faced Rana. After being struck on the helmet, he responded with a flurry of boundaries and sixes, followed by a cold stare that spoke volumes of his determination.
He reached his half-century in just 25 balls, continuing the carnage to bring up a stunning century off only 52 deliveries. The milestone came in the 17th over, when he dispatched Arshdeep Singh for a towering six. His celebration was equally memorable—helmet off, a finger to the lips, and eyes raised to the heavens, a mix of passion and poise.

However, the fairytale finish eluded him. With Sri Lanka needing a late push, Nissanka fell to Rana for a heroic 107 in the final over, leaving the game poised for a dramatic Super Over.

Despite his brilliance, Sri Lanka’s campaign ended in disappointment. Having topped Group B with three consecutive wins over Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong, the Lions stumbled badly in the Super Four stage. A narrow four-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in their opener was followed by a subpar showing against Pakistan, where they managed only 133/8 before slipping to a five-wicket loss.
