The Pakistan Cricket Board has posted an update about the renovation work on Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which was shared as a video on social media. Sharing on ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter), the PCB said, “Under the lights, it’s a sight to behold!…We can’t wait to welcome fans, officials, and teams for the tri-nation series and Champions Trophy.”

With concerns growing over the readiness of Pakistan’s venues for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the PCB has assured that Gaddafi Stadium will be handed over to the ICC on February 11, just over a week before the tournament kicks off. The delay has raised questions, given that the ICC had initially set a January 31 deadline for all three hosting venues—Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Stadium, and Rawalpindi Stadium.

A PCB source, talking to PTI, confirmed that the finishing touches were in place at Lahore, saying: “This is a construction site for months. There is debris, but most of it would be cleared now. The stadium has taken its shape after working on it vigorously for six months.”

Pakistan’s leading English daily, Dawn, had earlier reported skepticism over the timely completion of renovations, calling the deadline “almost impossible” to meet. However, officials remain optimistic that all upgrades will be completed before the ICC assumes control of the stadiums.
The Champions Trophy, featuring eight teams, begins on February 19, but India will play all its matches in Dubai due to security concerns. Karachi’s National Stadium is set to host the tournament opener between Pakistan and New Zealand. The PCB apparently spent PKR 12 billion on the improvement, construction and new installations within the three grounds.

Ticketing sales have been opened, although the doubts persisted until the PCB declared the three venues ready to host the matches. Uncertainty over Pakistan’s preparations has meant a major shake-up at the ICC, which saw CEO Geoff Allardice resign on Tuesday after the governing body’s board expressed dissatisfaction over his inability to provide clarity on the country’s readiness to host the event.
