The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over unruly crowd behaviour during the India vs Pakistan match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The match, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14, saw Pakistan captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan subjected to disrespectful conduct by the crowd present in the stadium.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans for the ongoing World Cup 2023,” the PCB said in a statement on their Twitter account. “The PCB has also filed a complaint regarding inappropriate conduct targeted at the Pakistan squad during the India vs Pakistan match held on 14 October 2023.”

The PCB’s complaint comes after a number of incidents of unruly crowd behaviour were reported during the match. Notably, during the match, Pakistan captain Babar was booed at the toss while a viral video after the game showed the crowd chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram (Hail Lord Ram!)’ as Rizwan was walking back to the pavilion.

After the game, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur had also expressed disappointment on the lack of support for his side in the world’s largest stadium. “It was a BCCI event, not an ICC event,” Mickey Arthur had said. “They didn’t play ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ (a popular Pakistani song) and the crowd was booing the Pakistan team. I don’t think that’s acceptable.”

The ICC has not yet issued a statement on the PCB’s complaint. However, it is expected that the governing body will investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Pakistan were bundled out for 191 in 42.5 overs in the match, after being put in to bat first. India chased down the target in 30.3 overs, with captain Rohit Sharma playing a breathtaking knock of 86 off 63 balls. India extended their unbeaten run over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup to 8-0 with their victory.
