Pakistan players like  Salim Malik, Salman Butt,  Mohammad Aamir Danish Kaneria, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, and Mohammad Aamir are charged with match-fixing or spot-fixing across the years. The number of corruption cases and match-fixing incidents are continuously increasing across Pakistan Cricket. As a preventive measure and to discourage the practice fixing of any kind, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  has asked the government to legislate a law that would criminalize match-fixing and spot-fixing in cricket.

On Tuesday. PCB chairman Ehsan Mani shared that they don’t have the required legal authority on it right now. The PCB doesn’t have the power to call witnesses or check bank accounts. They are restricted from researching other details right now in relation to the corruption cases. He also added how PCB  is closely following the Sri Lankan board’s procedure to legislating its law.

“I have already spoken to the government about this because other cricket playing nations like Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka has enacted laws that make match-fixing a criminal offense. We are studying their procedure closely and we also want corruption acts in cricket to be considered a criminal act,” he said.

In the meantime, he has also made it clear that PCB would continue to follow ICC Anti-Corruption Code till then. However, ICC’s code allows players to return to cricket again, something that has been a huge debate point for Pakistan cricket.

“I will not talk about individuals. Right now players who have completed bans and undergone rehab have the right to play again. It applies to everyone,” he said.
