Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Pakistan was one of the favorites to win the tournament. They were in decent form in the recently concluded Asia Cup and their pace bowling line-up was considered the best of the T20 World Cup. But in the first two games, things have gone totally out of their favor. So, now there are very few chances for Pakistan to reach the semi-finals as they have lost back-to-back matches against India and underdog Zimbabwe.

Babar Azam-led side is still searching for their first points and is in 5th position on the Group B table. They are just above the Netherlands who have the same points as Pakistan but a slightly worse net run rate.

Pakistan has 3 more matches left to play in the Super 12 stage of the tournament which are against the Netherlands, South Africa, and Bangladesh. So, they can’t end up with more than 6 points. After the first couple of matches, India has 4 points while South Africa and Zimbabwe each have 3 points. If two of these 3 teams win two more matches, Pakistan will be out of the t20 World Cup 2022.

Pakistan is not yet out of T20 World Cup but their chances of making it to the top 2 of the table are less. But these chances will become almost none if they lose one more game from here. Also, they are now dependent on other teams’ results.

There are more than one scenario through which Pakistan can end up in the top 2. But here is the scenario which is most likely to happen. These should be the results of upcoming Group B games if Pakistan wants to reach the semi-finals.

  • Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe – Bangladesh wins (Points: IND – 4, BAN – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, PAK – 0, NED – 0)
  • Pakistan vs Netherlands – Pakistan wins (Points: IND – 4, BAN – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, PAK – 2, NED – 0)
  • India vs South Africa – India wins (Points: IND – 6, BAN – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, PAK – 2, NED – 0)
  • Zimbabwe vs Netherlands – the Netherlands wins (Points: IND – 6, BAN – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, PAK – 2, NED – 2), if Zimbabwe wins Pakistan can still qualify if India beats Zimbabwe in the next game.
  • India vs Bangladesh – India wins (Points: IND – 8, BAN – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, PAK – 2, NED – 2)
  • Pakistan vs South Africa – Pakistan wins (Points: IND – 8, BAN – 4, PAK – 4, SA – 3, ZIM – 3, NED – 2). If Pakistan loses this match, they will be out of the T20 World Cup 2022.
  • South Africa vs Netherlands – Whoever wins. Suppose South Africa wins (Points: IND – 8, SA – 5, BAN – 4, PAK – 4, ZIM – 3, NED – 2)
  • Pakistan vs Bangladesh – Pakistan wins (Points: IND – 8, PAK – 6, SA – 5, BAN – 4, ZIM – 3, NED – 2)
  • India vs Zimbabwe – Whoever wins. Suppose India wins (Points: IND – 10, PAK – 6, SA – 5, BAN – 4, ZIM – 3, NED – 2)
