A successful cricketing career is nothing but a combination of perseverance and a hint of luck and recently, a similar thing has been experienced by the veteran Australian pacer Peter Siddle, who has received a call-up for the Australian Test squad despite not playing a Test match in past two years.  He played his last Test in November 2016 and now he has been included in a 15-man squad for the upcoming tour of UAE where Australia will face Pakistan in a two-match Test series.

Recently, Siddle completed 500 first-class wickets while playing for Essex during a county season in which he collected 37 wickets in seven games at 16 apiece. He made his Test debut against India in 2008 and has since played 62 of them, taking 211 wickets at a decent average of 29.92.

Talking about his comeback, as quoted in AFP, Peter said, “For me, it’s just about going out and enjoying my cricket, whether for Victoria or Essex. If I perform well, it obviously gives me a chance to put my name forward.”

Injuries to Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have served an opportunity for the veteran pacer, who will be looking to make the most of the series. He said, “You always need a little bit of luck along the way no matter how old you are and it’s my chance now to be around the group again and try to get in the side for that first Test. I’ll be doing everything I can in the next few weeks to get there. It’s been a few years and a lot of hard work in between to give myself another chance, and this is the icing on the cake.”
