In a thrilling display of athleticism and awareness, Phil Salt and Tim David combined to pull off a sensational relay catch during the high-octane clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7. The moment of brilliance came in the final over of a pulsating encounter that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Chasing a steep 222 for victory, Mumbai Indians needed 19 runs from the final six balls. Krunal Pandya took the ball for RCB, with Mitchell Santner on strike. Santner perished on the very first delivery, bringing Deepak Chahar to the crease with five balls remaining.

Chahar knew the situation demanded nothing less than a boundary, and he went for the big hit immediately. Krunal tried to surprise him with a slower short ball, and Chahar connected well, launching it towards the deep mid-wicket boundary. The ball seemed destined for six—until Phil Salt intervened.

Positioned near the ropes, Salt timed his jump perfectly, catching the ball overhead while airborne. But as his momentum took him beyond the boundary, he had the presence of mind to flick the ball mid-air back into play, where Tim David was perfectly placed to complete the relay catch. It was a moment that showcased coordination, clarity of mind, and sheer brilliance under pressure.

That catch effectively sealed the game for RCB. Mumbai Indians eventually managed 209/9, falling 12 runs short. Hardik Pandya, who looked dangerous, was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood at the start of the 19th over, which proved to be a turning point. Although Santner hit a six off the last ball of that over, the damage had already been done.

Krunal Pandya then executed the perfect final over, giving away just six runs and bagging three wickets. Earlier, RCB had set the tone with a dominant batting performance. Virat Kohli struck a fluent 67, Rajat Patidar added a classy 64, and Jitesh Sharma chipped in with a vital 40* off just 19 balls, propelling RCB to an imposing 221/5.

It was a game filled with drama, brilliance, and moments that could define a season.
