Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s explosive start against Delhi Capitals in Match 24 of IPL 2025 hit a sudden bump when Phil Salt, after a fiery opening blitz, was run out in a rather unfortunate manner. The English opener had laid the perfect foundation with a flurry of boundaries and sixes, particularly in the third over where he took Mitchell Starc to the cleaners, smashing three fours and two towering sixes.

That over alone went for 30 runs, as Salt and Virat Kohli raced RCB to 50 in just three overs—the fastest team fifty of the season so far. But just as the momentum seemed unstoppable, disaster struck. On the penultimate delivery of the fourth over, bowled by Axar Patel, Salt played a controlled punch towards extra cover and instantly set off for a single.

Virat Kohli, stationed at the non-striker’s end, initially responded but quickly changed his mind and sent Salt back. What followed was pure misfortune. Salt tried to turn back but slipped mid-way down the pitch. The hesitation proved costly as Lalit Yadav, sharp in the field, collected and whipped the ball in swiftly to complete the run-out. Salt was well short of his crease. It was a cruel end to what had been a sensational start for the Englishman, and a much-needed breather for Delhi Capitals.

This wicket brought relief for DC, who were under the pump right from the outset. Axar’s move to bring himself on early, which had backfired initially, eventually helped break the dangerous opening stand.
