In a thrilling moment during the 28th match of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener Phil Salt delivered one of the standout fielding efforts of the season against Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Jaiswal attempted to go big against Krunal Pandya, sending a short ball soaring towards deep mid-wicket.

For a moment, it looked destined to clear the boundary for six. But stationed perfectly near the ropes was Phil Salt, who judged the ball to perfection. Timing his leap immaculately, the Englishman grabbed the ball mid-air with both hands. But realizing he wouldn’t land inside the boundary with it, Salt cleverly pushed the ball back into play before hitting the ground.

The on-field umpires referred it upstairs to ensure no part of Salt’s body or hands had brushed the boundary cushion. After a detailed review, the third umpire confirmed that Salt had pulled off a clean save without making any contact with the rope—turning a certain six into just a single.

The ball came on faster than Yashasvi Jaiswal anticipated, causing a miscue. Yet it was Salt’s quick reflexes and athleticism that stole the show. His effort not only saved five crucial runs but also lifted RCB’s energy in a pressure match.

Such moments underline why fielding has become just as important as batting or bowling in modern T20 cricket. Phil Salt’s brilliance was a masterclass in awareness and athleticism.
