ARY Sports’ sources privy to the development said that Mohan Singh has allegedly committed suicide, while the administration has launched an investigation into the matter to unearth the reason behind the demise of such veteran curator. The 36-year-old Mohan Singh is an Indian resident as he also sued to be the pitch curator at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Australia, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies have all performed on pitches curated by  Mohan Singh. He came to Abu Dhabi in September 2004 after training to be a curator in India at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali, where he worked since 1994.

In Mohali, Mohan Singh started as a ground supervisor as well as assisting the coaches in a number of sports including tennis and swimming before his focus moved on to cricket. He had three offers and took up the job at Abu Dhabi instead of positions in Uganda and within India.

Mohan worked extensively with former BCCI chief curator Daljit Singh in Mohali before moving to the UAE in the early 2000s. Daljit, who served Indian cricket for 22 years, was shocked after learning about Mohan’s demise.

Daljit Singh said, “He was a bright kid when he came to me. A very talented and hardworking person. He hailed from Garhwal and also remembers him as a family man. After he went to the UAE, he used to come to visit every time he was in the country but I had not seen him for a while. Gone too soon and it is really tragic.”
