On Wednesday, Shashank Manohar decided to call it quits on his position of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) first independent chairman. Unfortunately, during his tenure, BCCI kept on losing its influence in the global body. Manohar took charge as ICC Chairman in November 2015 and after his resignation, his deputy Imran Khwaja, from Hong Kong will be the interim chairman.
ICC has said that the nomination process will be completed on Monday by next week. Here are some of the potential contenders for the post:
ICC’S Chairman post – Potential Contenders
Former ECB chairman Colin Graves
Colin Graves has been known as a shrewd administrator and he will be well supported by Cricket Australia (CA), ECB and BCCI if the latter themselves do not choose to provide their candidate. But he is unlikely to receive support from Cricket South Africa & few others. However, if BCCI decides to support him, there will be no stopping for the English man.
BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly hasn’t given any clues of him giving his nomination or not as his candidature will depend on whether the Supreme Court relaxes the cooling-off norms mandated by the Lodha Panel and he continues as the BCCI president. If not, the former India skipper will surely vie for the ICC’s big post. And if that happens, Ganguly can be elected unopposed by anyone else and BCCI can wield the same power on the global body what they had in the past.

Talking about the same, one of the ICC member said, “If he and BCCI decides, no one can stop him. The board can easily maneuver votes for him. Not only that, he will also be a very able choice to lead the world body.”
Imran Khawaja – ICC deputy Chairman
After Manhor’s resignations, deputy chairman Imran Khawaja has been performing the interim duties. Khwaja is a lawyer by profession and he was also the former president of the Singapore Cricket Association. He can be a compromise candidate for few, but members of a certain associate nation taking over ICC’s chairman post in the presence of Big 3 is little difficult to fathom.
Dave Cameron
Cameron is the only candidate who has officially announced his candidature for the big post. He is backed by the United States Cricket Hall of Fame. But if needs to stand a chance to have a real chance his first challenge would be to garner two full members to nominate him.

Other than the above-mentioned people, some rank outsiders like New Zealand’s Gregor Barclay, Cricket South Africa’s Chris Nenzani can be expected to give their candidature.
