Virat Kohli had gone through a lean period from 2020 to 2021. He did not score a century for almost two years. But then, Kohli’s resilience came to the fore, particularly in that unbelievable game against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022. His form may have been under question, but still, Kohli was managing an average that many batsmen would be proud of, even during his so-called lean period.

Former left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha spoke about the high standards Kohli has set for himself and the pressure that comes along with it. Kohli’s Test average did fall down to 26.2 during that time, but Ojha was confident that the star batter would get out of the rut. Players of Kohli’s stature, Ojha said, who have played more than ten years of international cricket, do face a slump at some point in their careers but they evolve from there.

“When you talk about players like Virat Kohli, they have played more than a decade of international cricket. A time comes when different challenges come forward, and you need to upgrade yourself. Legends of the game always evolve, and I expect him to evolve,” Pragyan Ojha said as quoted by InsideSport.

His century drought started to be the talking point wherein his half-centuries were also dysregulated. However, he finally broke that streak with a ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. Ojha said that great players like Kohli have a time when things get really tough for them, but they rise above those challenges.

“Greats have had their challenges and overcame them. I’m very sure Virat will always do that; it’s just a matter of time. Virat has set the benchmark so high that even a 50 or 60 looks like a failure for him. That’s just how he’s contributed to the Indian team. The way he trains and his work ethic-its just a matter of time before he comes good,” Pragyan Ojha added.
