Left-handed opener Pratham Singh put on a stellar show in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, stunning India D with a spectacular century on day three. Replacing Shubman Gill in the India A lineup, Pratham demonstrated immense resilience and skill, crafting a match-saving hundred, particularly targeting the opposition’s key bowler, Vidhwath Kaverappa.
The turning point came during the 49th over of India A’s second innings. Pratham had already established a solid partnership with Tilak Varma, laying a strong foundation for their team. Sensing the need for a breakthrough, India D captain Shreyas Iyer brought in speedster Kaverappa, hoping to break the partnership after Saransh Jain’s previous over had leaked eight runs. However, this move backfired dramatically.

Pratham Singh immediately went on the offensive. He began the over by dispatching Kaverappa for a towering six over mid-wicket, signalling his intent. While the bowler managed to contain him with three dot balls, Pratham struck back with consecutive boundaries on the final two deliveries. These shots not only showcased his class but also marked his redemption after a disappointing first-innings performance, helping him reach a well-deserved century.

India A found themselves in a commanding position, thanks to Pratham’s sublime knock, bolstered by key contributions from Mayank Agarwal and Tilak Varma. Agarwal’s earlier dismissal towards the end of day two did little to dent their momentum, as Pratham and Tilak took charge and steadied the innings.

By the time play was halted, India A had amassed 199 for one, with Pratham Singh unbeaten on 108* and Tilak Varma on 34*. The team looks set to set a daunting target for India D in the coming days.
