In what can only be described as a meteoric rise, 24-year-old Indian opener Pratika Rawal etched her name into cricketing folklore by becoming the fastest batter in women’s ODI history to reach 500 runs. The Delhi-born cricketer achieved the feat in just her eighth innings, surpassing the legendary Charlotte Edwards, who previously held the record with nine innings.

The milestone was reached during India’s clash against South Africa in the tri-nation series at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. Batting first after skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss, Rawal anchored India’s innings with a composed 78 off 91 balls, laced with seven boundaries and a towering six. As she calmly nudged a single off Masabata Klaas in the fourth over, she quietly reached 500 ODI runs—a historic moment for Indian cricket.
Rawal’s innings was crucial in setting up India’s total of 276/6 and further solidified her reputation as one of the brightest young stars in the women’s game. Her achievement becomes even more special considering she broke Shubman Gill’s record to become the fastest Indian—male or female—to 500 ODI runs. Gill had achieved the milestone in 10 innings back in 2022, while Rawal needed just eight.

Globally, Rawal now sits only behind South Africa’s Janneman Malan, who reached 500 runs in men’s ODIs in just seven innings.

Since then, she’s been on a dream run with consistent scores—76, 18, 89, 67, 154, 50, and now 78*—a string of performances that reflects her growing confidence and skill. Her unbeaten 50 in the first ODI of the tri-series also played a key role in India’s nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka. If this form continues, Pratika Rawal isn’t just a star in the making—she’s already shining brightly on the international stage.
