Bollywood star and co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta, has voiced her frustration over a controversial umpiring call during Match 66 of IPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals (DC). The incident occurred in the 15th over of the PBKS innings when Shashank Singh launched a shot off Mohit Sharma that appeared destined for six. Positioned at long-on, Karun Nair made an athletic effort to flick the ball back into play.

However, suspecting that his foot may have touched the boundary rope while in contact with the ball, Nair signalled six himself. After reviewing the footage, the matter was referred to third umpire Chris Gaffaney, who declared there wasn’t conclusive evidence to award six runs. As a result, PBKS were given just a single, much to the disbelief of fans and the team alike.

After the game, Zinta took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disappointment, stating: “In such a high-profile tournament with so much technology at the third umpire’s disposal, such mistakes are unacceptable. I spoke to Karun after the game and he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a six! I rest my case.”

Despite the controversial decision, PBKS managed to post a formidable 206/8. But Delhi Capitals chased it down in 19.3 overs, thanks to a match-winning half-century from 21-year-old Sameer Rizvi—his first in the IPL.

The loss proved costly for PBKS, who missed the chance to go top of the table. With 17 points from 13 games, they now sit second and must beat Mumbai Indians in their final league match to secure a top-two finish. That position would give them two opportunities to reach the IPL 2025 final—a cushion every team covets in the high-stakes playoff stage.
