Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently praised India batsman Suresh Raina who donated a huge amount to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

“That’s a brilliant fifty, @ImRaina! #IndiaFightsCorona,” PM replied to Raina’s tweet. “It’s time we all do our bit to help defeat #COVID19. I’m pledging 52 lakh for the fight against #Corona (31 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund & 21 lakh to the UP CM’s Disaster Relief Fund). Please do your bit too. Jai Hind! #StayHomeIndia @narendramodi @PMOIndia @myogiadityanath,” Raina had tweeted earlier on Saturday.

Suresh Raina also took part in NDTV’s #IStayHome4 campaign on Wednesday. He took to Twitter and posted a picture where he can be seen holding a poster that read, “I love my family. Do you? I am staying home to protect them. Are you?”. With this message, Raina asked the nation to maintain a strict lockdown to avoid the spreading of the novel coronavirus.

India are currently in a 21-day “total lockdown” from midnight on Tuesday, where if anyone will ignore the order face up to two years in jail and a fine as well. Earlier, Suresh Raina trained with his Chennai Super Kings teammates which included MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, Piyush Chawla etc. in Chennai during the first week of March before the training camp got cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

COVID-19 has cancelled all the sporting events all over the country which also included this year’s Indian Premier League which was earlier scheduled to take place from March 29 and later got pushed back to April 15 “as a precautionary measure” over the coronavirus, the BCCI said. This also included the Tokyo Olympics which has also been delayed until next year.

Currently, more than 1000 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported across the country and the pandemic virus has taken more than 25 lives. Globally, the pandemic has taken around 30,000 lives so far as well.
