Talented opening batter Prithvi Shaw has expressed his disappointment over being dropped for the ODI series between India and South Africa, claiming that he is not getting chances despite scoring runs in heaps. Shaw has been in sensational form, amassing fifties and hundreds across formats in domestic cricket.
Prithvi Shaw was a part of India A squad that played against a touring New Zealand A side in Chennai in September but he was not selected for the ODI series against South Africa. Shikhar Dhawan is leading a side that has several young players but Shaw’ wasn’t there as well. However, Prithvi Shaw hit 2 tons for West Zone in Duleep Trophy in September and followed it up with a 44-ball 77 for India A against New Zealand A as well.
“I was disappointed,” Prithvi Shaw told mid-day. “I am scoring runs, doing a lot of hard work, but not getting a chance. But, it’s alright. When they [national selectors] feel I am ready, they will play me. Whatever opportunities I get, whether it is for India ‘A’ or other teams, I will make sure I do my best and keep my fitness levels up to the mark.”
“I worked on weight loss and reduced it by seven to eight kgs after the last IPL. I spent a lot of time in the gym, did a lot of running, didn’t consume any sweets and cold drinks. Chinese food is totally out of my menu now. I am back in form and I will make sure I will come back to the Indian team. I am determined to do it,” Prithvi Shaw concluded.
