Prithvi Shaw to lead India in U-19 World Cup

Mumbai’s young sensation Prithvi Shaw has been named the skipper of India’s U-19 squad, which will take place in the Youth World Cup to be played in New Zealand. Shubman Gill, Punjab, will be vice-skipper of the nation in the multi-national event.

Both of these batsmen were not in the team when India U-19 played last time in Asia Cup. Harvik Desai will be seen keeping the stumps while Aryan Juyal is the backup wicketkeeper in the team.

The team will gather for a preparation camp in Bengaluru from December 8 to 22 before leaving for the U-19 WC. Both Shaw and Gill will join the team as late as 12 December after representing their respective domestic sides in the quarterfinal of Ranji Trophy.

India was the runner-up in the last edition of the tournament, while they have won the competition a record three times in 2000, 2008 and 2012. The latest season will commence from January 13 and India will open their count against Australia on 14 January.
