A tense moment unfolded during a friendly three-day red-ball match between Maharashtra and Mumbai in Pune on Tuesday, as India cricketer Prithvi Shaw and young all-rounder Musheer Khan were involved in a fiery on-field altercation. The incident occurred at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Gahunje, forcing teammates and the umpire to intervene and restore calm between the two.

The clash came moments after Shaw’s brilliant 181 off 220 balls, laced with 21 boundaries and three sixes—a statement knock against his former team, Mumbai. This was the first time Shaw faced his old side after shifting to Maharashtra earlier this year, and he made sure his bat did most of the talking.

However, the emotions spilled over when Musheer dismissed Shaw, caught at square leg in the 74th over.According to a Cricbuzz report, Musheer allegedly sledged Shaw after the dismissal, sarcastically saying, “Thank you,” which didn’t sit well with the 25-year-old batter. Shaw reportedly raised his bat toward the 20-year-old and grabbed his collar, sparking a heated exchange before others stepped in.

It’s also been reported that Shaw had been at the receiving end of verbal taunts throughout his innings, adding fuel to the fire when his wicket finally fell.

The tension didn’t end there—Shaw also exchanged words with Mumbai’s Siddesh Lad while walking back to the dressing room, once again prompting umpire intervention.

Despite the incident, Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawne was quick to defuse the situation, terming it a “minor misunderstanding” in the heat of competition. “It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen, and it’s all fine now,” Bawne said, putting the controversy to rest.
