Prithvi Shaw’s journey in Indian cricket has been one filled with promise and potential. Once hailed as the next big thing, Shaw’s rise to prominence was rapid, and he earned a place in the Indian national team at a young age. However, his career has been marred by a slump in form and fitness issues, which have kept him away from the Indian set-up since his last appearance in July 2021, a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Since then, Shaw has been part of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, where his talent was never in question. He has displayed his raw potential on multiple occasions, such as when he once hit five boundaries in an over against Shivam Mavi. But despite his ability, Shaw was notably unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, which was a surprise to many, especially considering the immense promise he once showed.
Reflecting on his early cricketing days, Shaw shared a fascinating story about the first time he came close to meeting the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw was around nine years old when he first saw Tendulkar at the MIG (Middle Income Group) Club, where the cricket icon practised.

Prithvi Shaw had heard of the club’s reputation and joined it in hopes of improving his game. “I saw Sachin sir playing for the first time. He was practicing on the main wicket, and I was watching from a distance,”Prithvi Shaw recalled on the Focused Indian YouTube channel.
Shaw then recounted how, under the pressure of having the great Tendulkar watching him, he struggled to keep his composure. “I was batting well, but as soon as I realized Sachin sir was watching from the first floor of the MIG Club, I missed a few balls,” Shaw admitted. However, after a few adjustments, Shaw regained his focus and continued his batting, marking a memorable moment in his early cricketing journey.

Meanwhile, in IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals made significant changes to their squad, including releasing Rishabh Pant and securing the services of star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for INR 14 crore. Pant, on the other hand, was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a record IPL auction price of INR 27 crore, highlighting the shifting dynamics in the IPL landscape.
