The young Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw said that his bond with Shikhar Dhawan has grown multi-folds since they had started opening together for their Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals (DC). Dhawan, who is captaining the Indian team in their limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, opened the Indian innings with Shaw in the first ODI on Sunday.
Talking about the same during a chat on Star Sports, Prithvi Shaw said, “Shikhar Dhawan and I open together for Delhi Capitals. Although we were good friends before Delhi Capitals, opening together has made our bond stronger. Off the field, we used to spend a lot of time together, whether it was having dinner together or chilling in his room.”

He further added, “We used to talk a lot and our bond was visible on the wicket (during the game). Whether it was off the field or between the overs, we used to talk a lot. I thoroughly enjoy practicing with him.”
While Dhawan held one end, Prithvi Shaw, and later Ishan Kishan, went on a rampage at the other end on Sunday. The opening partnership produced 58 runs in just 5.3 overs, with Shaw smashing 43 off 24 balls. By the time Kishan, who scored 59 off 42, was dismissed, India had scored 143 runs in 17.5 overs chasing a target of 263.
Dhawan ended the match playing a brilliant knock of 86 off 95 balls as India strolled to a seven-wicket win. It was only Shaw’s fourth ODI and 43 is his highest score in the format.
