On Day 4 of the Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest of India at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Prithvi Shaw showcased his aggressive form by smashing a 37-ball fifty in Mumbai’s second innings. His fifty came in style, executing a beautifully timed late cut to send the ball to the boundary off Saransh Jain.
By the Tea break, Mumbai’s score stood at 85 for two, extending their lead to 206 runs, putting them in a commanding position. Earlier, the Rest of India managed to break the blossoming partnership between Shaw and Hardik Tamore just before the Tea interval. The duo had stitched together a 33-run stand for the second wicket before Tamore was dismissed after scoring just seven runs.

Prithvi Shaw, however, remained unbeaten on 58 from 46 deliveries, displaying his trademark flair. Joining him at the crease was Mumbai’s experienced captain, Ajinkya Rahane. Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar chipped in with one wicket each during the second session, keeping the Rest of India’s hopes alive.

Mumbai had set a strong foundation with their first innings total of 537 runs, thanks to a masterclass double-century by Sarfaraz Khan. The 26-year-old was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 222, laced with 25 boundaries and four sixes. Rahane, who looked in sublime touch, narrowly missed out on a century, falling three runs short.
Lower down the order, Tanush Kotian added valuable runs with a well-crafted 64. The Rest of India responded with 416 in their first innings, thanks to a superb knock by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who scored a magnificent 191. He was ably supported by Dhruv Jurel, who contributed 93 runs.

Despite Easwaran’s brilliance, Mumbai’s bowlers, led by Shams Mulani and Kotian, who both claimed three wickets each, and Mohith Avasthi, with two wickets, restricted the Rest of India from overtaking their total. With Shaw continuing his aggressive approach and Rahane steady at the other end, Mumbai looks to build an even stronger lead heading into the final stages of the match.
