India skipper Priyam Garg was not happy but he acknowledged that it was a poor day with the bat and they would have scored some 210-220 to give a fight back. Garg also termed their 3-wicket U-19 World Cup final loss to Bangladesh as it was not their day.

India were bundled out within a mere total of 177 but gave a fightback to Bangladesh with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi did a superb spell with googlies to reduce them to 102/6 at one point in the game. However, Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets in DLS method in a nail-biting U19 World Cup final to lift their first U19 World Cup title at Senwes Park on Sunday.

“It’s a bad day, but our boys fought really well. Even with such a low total, we made it difficult for them, and I would like to thank my team for that. The biggest factor was the toss because the wicket was a bit damp. We had a good start, and we should have got to at least 210-220. That would have been a much better score,” added Priyam Garg.

While the bowlers bowled a lot of extras – more than 20 plus wides and no-balls, Priyam Garg doesn’t think it did the difference.

“I don’t think we could have done much differently. For 178, we responded really well, and we lost this because we didn’t bat well enough. That’s about it. We enjoyed the World Cup. We played a series here too, and this was enjoyable too,”he added.

Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali remained not out on 43 off 77 balls with 4 fours and a six and Rakibul Hossain (9 not out) who hit the winning runs took the side to the finish line with ease. India have won the title four times earlier whereas this was the first title for Bangladesh in the Under-19 World Cup.
