In a spectacular show of power-hitting, young Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya etched his name into the history books by smashing the fastest IPL century by an uncapped batter, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2025 clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday. With this feat, Priyansh became only the eighth uncapped batter and seventh Indian to register a century in the IPL.

Already a sensation on the domestic circuit, Priyansh had turned heads in the Delhi Premier League, where he famously struck six sixes in an over. His ton against CSK is now the second-fastest IPL century by an Indian, only behind Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball blitz in 2010, and the quickest ever against CSK.

The 23-year-old southpaw made his IPL debut earlier this season against Gujarat Titans. He became one of the hottest uncapped picks during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, where PBKS snapped him up for ₹3.8 crore, starting from a base of ₹30 lakh, outbidding interest from the Capitals, Mumbai, and RCB.

Arya’s credentials were well established before the IPL. In Delhi Premier League 2024, he topped the scoring charts with over 600 runs in 10 matches, including that famous six-sixes feat against North Delhi Strikers. He was also Delhi’s highest scorer in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, notching 222 runs at a strike rate of 166.91.

Off the field, Priyansh’s story is equally inspiring. Raised in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, he had unwavering support from his parents — both school teachers — who ensured he balanced academics with cricket. “He was just seven when he said he wanted to play cricket. As teachers, we insisted he focus on studies too,” his father Pawan Arya shared with The Indian Express.
