The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing a big dilemma over the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The next season is expected to clash with the Indian Premier League 2022, which will be taking place during April-May 2022 window. With Australia touring Pakistan in February-March next year, the board has been put in a tricky position with when to host the PSL 2022.

PSL is taking place in the February-March window since coming into being. The league was played in two phases this year after the covid-19 outbreak among the players participating in the league. The same case occurred the last year as well when the knockout matches were conducted later on after the arrival of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to expand the IPL from eight teams to ten teams, which means the next season will take more time to get finished. The number of matches is expected to rise from 60 to 74 in the IPL 2022.

On the other hand, PSL 2022 may get a shift next year with Australia touring Pakistan to play series in the February-March window. Now, PCB is left with the same window as that of IPL 2022.

Other than that, PCB can conduct the PSL 2022 from December 25 to February 15 but that is a very busy window for the international teams and players. Several teams play bilateral cricket during this time.

PCB may not host the next season in this window keeping the limited availability of players in mind. Hence, according to ESPNCricinfo, PCB has formed a panel with an independent consultant to solve the matter.

The IPL 2021 was halted midway after the covid-19 breached into the bio-secure environment of the IPL. Now, the second leg of the IPL 2021 will be played in the UAE in the September-October window.
