Punjab Kings Manages To Get The Services Of Nathan Ellis For IPL 2021

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have bought the service of the Australian fast bowler, Nathan Ellis for the remaining games of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The announcement comes after Australians Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith got ruled out of the tournament which is scheduled to be commencing on September 19.

Nathan Ellis made his debut for Australia in August 2021 and became the first men’s cricketer to scalp a hat-trick of wickets on his debut in a T20I match against Bangladesh. The Punjab franchise announced the news on Twitter as they wrote: “Nathan ELL-IS a He’s the newest addition to #SaddaSquad for the second phase of #IPL2021! #SaddaPunjab #PunjabKings”.

With his sudden rise, Ellis was named as one of three players as injury cover in Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2019 scheduled to be taking place in the UAE and Oman. Ellis made his T20I debut on August 6 against Bangladesh. Apart from his debut hat-trick, he also became the third Australian to achieve a hat-trick in a T20Is after Brett Lee and Ashton Agar.

The youngster was selected in the Australian team after his consistent performances in the Big Bash League campaign last year where he managed to scalp as many as 20 wickets for Hobart Hurricanes. He was also unsold in the IPL 2021 auction with a base price of INR 20 Lakh.

IPL 2021 was postponed earlier this year in May after several COVID-19 cases among players and staff across teams. Before the tournament to a halt, 29 league matches were played with Delhi Capitals (DC) leading the points table.

The tournament was moved from India to the UAE and will resume with the first match being played between the arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai.
