What a slower ball or a slower one is for a quick bowler, a quicker one is for a spinner, i.e., a variation or a change-up delivery. These variations are nothing new to cricket. However, the modern-day game has increased their use for a bowler cannot be predictable with his speed, especially in the limited-overs format.

Therefore, changing the pace of the delivery has become a vital weapon for the bowlers on the modern contemporary cricket field. It is not as easy as it sounds because, for any bowler, it becomes very crucial to bowl the change-up delivery with the same run-up and the same action. Any alteration in this aspect can be a fine hint for the batsman to anticipate the delivery.

The first name which comes to mind among spinners who have made the quicker ones an important tool in their armory is Shahid Afridi. Former Pakistani captain was a master at changing the pace of the ball. Bowling with the same run-up and action as of a spinner, Afridi has recorded his bowling speed as high as 134 kmph.
