Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner, R Ashwin put his team in a commanding position when he dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder, Andre Russell, with a magical carrom ball.  Chasing 218, KKR was motoring along quite well on the back of a couple of fifties from Aaron Finch and skipper, Shreyas Iyer.

Aaron Finch The former looked dangerous before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 58 off 28 balls. Nitish Rana played a quickfire cameo before Yuzvendra Chahal managed to dismiss him for the 5th time in IPL. However, the biggest wicket of the night went to R Ashwin, who sent back Andre Russell for a golden duck to sink KKR.

Coming from a wide-angle, R Ashwin got one to straighten and Russell ended up playing for the turn. The ball whizzed past Russell’s blade and crashed into the off-stump, sending the 35-year-old Ashwin on a celebratory run.

Earlier in the game, KKR skipper, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first which has been the case in all the matches of the IPL 2022 so far. After many matches, Rajasthan Royals’ openers gave them a terrific start, with mainly Jos Buttler doing the heavy scoring in the powerplay. Padikkal and Buttler added 97 runs in 9.4 overs before Padikkal was bowled by Sunil Narine.

Sanju Samson then came to the party and smashed 38 runs in 19 balls, but the whole RR innings was about Jos Buttler. Jos reached his second IPL century this season off 59 balls. He got out for 103 in 61 balls and caught off the bowling of Pat Cummins, but it was an excellent inning. Once Buttler got out, RR batters started throwing their hands at every ball, and eventually, RR reached a daunting score of 217/5 owing to the late blitz from Shimron Hetmyer.
