The veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin said that his teammates and the coaching staff are not having any discussions regarding their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals and all their focus is on winning their last two Super 12 games in the ICC T20 World Cup. India pulled off a thrashing win over Afghanistan by 66 runs on Wednesday. Despite teh win, the men in blue are staring at an early exit from the tournament following comprehensive defeats by Pakistan and New Zealand.

The Indian team needs to register huge wins over Namibia and Scotland and then hope for Afghanistan to pull off a win over New Zealand to stand a chance of advancing to the last four. But Ravichandran Ashwin says the players are not thinking that far ahead and only concentrating on the immediate job at hand, which is to win against Namibia on November 5.

On the eve of the game against Namibia, R Ashwin said, “I think there are hardly any discussions with regards to that (semi-finals). The discussion we need to have is how we’re going to go about the couple of games we have left, and everyone’s planning and wanting to go (out) on a real high for the last two games. That is stuff that’s not in our control. It’s fingers crossed.”

Afghanistan will have the support of the entire Team India and more than a billion fans from the country when they take on the Blackcaps in Abu Dhabi on November 7.

Talking bout the same, R Ashwin said, “It’s a funny game, and Afghanistan has played good cricket.  I really wish if we could provide any physio support to Mujeeb we can get him on the field. All the very best to them. The news that I got selected for the World Cup was very heartening. I had some special dreams of getting into the World Cup, wanting to do special things for the team.”

However, Rashid Khan gave a cheeky reply to R Ashwin’s request. He wrote, “@ashwinravi99 Bhai Don’t worry our team Physio Prasanth Panchada ‘Chusukuntunnaru.” Moreover, the tweet loosely translates to “Don’t worry brother, Afghanistan’s team physio Prasanth Panchada is treating the players well.” He wittingly used a Telugu word to describe the situation.

He further added, “But after yesterday’s win, we still do have our fingers crossed and hope things go right. Barring that, it was quite a special night. Everything I wanted to execute fell in place. It was a special night for me.”
