R Sridhar appointed as Afghanistan’s assistant coach

Afghanistan Cricket Board have appointed former India fielding coach, R. Sridhar, as an assistant coach of the senior men’s team for the upcoming series as well. Sridhar, 54, will join the team for the upcoming one-off Test match against New Zealand as well as a three-match ODI series against South Africa as well with a long-term contract potentially deliberated later on.

However, R Sridhar has a lot of coaching experience and he has served as India’s fielding coach under Ravi Shastri till the 2021 T20 World Cup. From 2008 to 2014, the veteran first-class left-arm spinner also served India’s National Cricket Academy as an assistant fielding and spin bowling coach as well as he was also an assistant coach for the 2014 India Under-19 World Cup squad. He has also experienced a coaching stint with the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the Indian Premier League as well.

Meanwhile, in the Afghanistan team, R Sridhar will work under head coach Jonathan Trott as they play a one-off Test against New Zealand in Noida from September 9 as well. The three-match ODI series against South Africa will take place in Sharjah from September 18 as well.
