The T20 World Cup heats up as India enters the crucial Super Eight stage. After topping Group A alongside the USA, they now face a tougher challenge in a group with Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. The key for India will be adaptability. With three Super Eight games across five days in different locations, the team needs to adjust quickly to varying Caribbean conditions.
Head coach Rahul Dravid acknowledges this. “We have to be mindful of the conditions,” he said. “T20 cricket often emphasizes pushing the boundaries, but cricket is a game heavily influenced by the surface. It’s one of the few sports where the playing field directly impacts skill levels and acceptable performance.”
Rahul Dravid emphasizes the need for rapid tactical adjustments, citing the New York leg where batters had to adapt significantly. He also uses the last World Cup in Australia as an example, where conditions varied across venues.

“We saw this in New York and Australia. Every wicket is different,” he explained. “We pride ourselves on being smart and assessing situations cleverly.”
This focus on adaptability seems to indicate a shift from the aggressive batting approach India has become known for under Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma. The risky batting style showcased in New York might be a thing of the past as India prioritizes calculated play in unpredictable conditions.
Despite this change, Rahul Dravid remains confident in India’s ability to handle diverse situations. “We feel we have the experience and knowledge to counteract different situations,” he said. “We’re looking at past games in the Caribbean, but keeping an open mind is crucial. Data can only tell you so much; conditions can surprise you.”
