Rahul Dravid, India’s World Cup-winning head coach and cricketing legend, is back in his hometown, Bengaluru, after a hectic schedule with Rajasthan Royals leading into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. But that peace has been disrupted, and it happened over a heated argument with an auto-rickshaw driver on February 4 in the evening.

The incident occurred on Cunningham Road, which is a short walk from Bengaluru’s famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, featuring the Wall of Excellence honouring this cricketing legend. Eyewitnesses report that even Dravid, known for his composed demeanour, was passionately debating the issue with his auto driver.

Witnesses report that Dravid initially stayed calm, speaking softly and deliberately. In contrast, the auto driver grew more aggressive, causing a disturbance on the crowded street. While the specifics of their conversation are difficult to discern due to the low-quality audio in the viral clip, bystanders assert that the argument stemmed from a minor traffic incident.

It was reported that the auto driver had applied his brakes abruptly, which gave Dravid little time to react and resulted in a minor collision with his SUV. According to witness accounts, Dravid tried to explain that he had little control over the situation since the sudden halt left him no room to avoid contact.

Speaking in Kannada, the auto driver admitted to having made a mistake but claimed that Rahul Dravid could have handled the situation better and avoided the crash. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage, and no police complaints or FIRs have been filed. However, given the fact that the video has gone viral on social media, the authorities may look into the matter.

To recall, Rahul Dravid had recently resigned as India’s head coach, taking over from there after he helped the side to win the 2024 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The history that was written on June 29 marked the last day of his tenure with India, which followed his transfer to Rajasthan Royals in a coaching capacity.

Interestingly, Dravid had played for the Jaipur-based franchise between 2011 and 2013 after a three-year stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore, now Bengaluru. Ahead of IPL 2025, the 52-year-old will look to lead Rajasthan Royals to their first title since their inaugural triumph in 2008, adding another milestone to his already illustrious coaching career.
