Rahul Dravid Named As India’s Coach For The Sri Lanka Tour

As per the recent reports of ANI, former Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid, who is currently serving as the Head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be traveling with the Indian team for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka as the coach. This is will be Dravid’s second stint in a coaching position with the senior men’s team, after he traveled with the team as a batting consultant on the tour of England in 2014.

Informing the same to ANI, a BCCI official said, “The Team India coaching staff will be in the UK and it is best that the young team is guided by Dravid as he has already worked with almost all of India ‘A’ boys. The comfort the youngsters share with him will be an added advantage.”

The tour of Sri Lanka comprises three ODIs and as many T20Is scheduled to be between July 13 and 27. Rahul Dravid will be traveling as a coach for the side since India’s head coach Ravi Shastri will be with the Test team to prepare for the five-match series against England, which is scheduled to be commencing in August.

In addition, India’s bowling Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and batting coach Vikram Rathour will also be traveling to England with the Test squad. It is expected that a significant part of the squad which would travel to Sri Lanka would comprise players who have already played under the mentorship of Rahul Dravid, when was teh coach of India’s U-19 and A teams in the past.

Under Dravid’s tenure as the coach of the U-19 setup, India lifted the World Cup in 2018. The former Indian skipper is credited with laying the foundation.
