Anticipation mounts as the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches, with cricket enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the Indian team’s performance in the upcoming tournament. After the disappointment of losing the ODI World Cup summit clash in 2023, led by Captain Rohit Sharma, expectations are high for a stronger showing in the T20 format.
One crucial aspect of the team’s preparation has been the speculation around the head coach for the T20 World Cup. Despite Rahul Dravid’s contract reaching its end after the ODI World Cup 2023, he continued in his role, along with the support staff, for the subsequent December-January tour to South Africa. The duration of Dravid’s tenure remained unresolved during this period.

Putting an end to the speculation, BCCI’s secretary, Jay Shah, confirmed that Rahul Dravid will continue as the head coach of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Addressing concerns about Dravid’s contract, Jay Shah stated, “Why are you worried about a contract for such a senior person like Rahul Dravid? Rahul bhai will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup.”
Shah acknowledged that due to the continuous series and engagements, he has been unable to discuss the details with Dravid. However, he expressed the intention to have more rounds of discussion before the T20 World Cup.
“I will speak with him whenever there is time, there are back-to-back series happening right now. They were in South Africa, then there was a (T20I) series against Afghanistan (at home), and now England. We did not get to speak in between at all,” Jay Shah explained.
