Rajasthan Royals Fielding Rejoins The Squad After Covid-19 Recovery

The fielding coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Rajasthan Royals (RR), Dishant Yagnik has recovered from COVID-19 and joined his team in Dubai ahead of the IPL 2020 as he has been tested negative of two consecutive coronavirus tests. The 37-year-old Yagnik had tested positive for coronavirus on August 12 just before the departure of the franchise to UAE, making it the first such case among the league franchises.

IPL 2020 is currently scheduled to commence on September 19 and the matches of the 13th edition are expected to be played across three cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah. Yagnik was in his hometown Udaipur when he was tested and was advised to get admitted to a hospital for the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Informing about the same, Rajasthan Royal on Friday, tweeted: “14-day quarantine, 2 Negative tests, 1 Fitness test, Fielding coach@Dishantyagnik77 is ready for #IPL2020.” On the other hand, a team official had informed, “He arrived here early this morning.”

However, Yagnik will be undergoing a mandatory six-day self-isolation and will also need to undergo three more COVID-19 tests before joining the RR for the tournament which is scheduled to commence on September 19. A left-handed hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman, Yagnik had amassed 170 runs in 25 IPL games.

RR fielding coach made his first-class debut in 2004 and went on to amass as many as 1,754 runs in 50 matches at an average of 24.70 with a century and nine half-centuries. In 41 List A matches, he scored 945 runs at 25.54 with two centuries and four half-centuries.

On Friday, an India T20 specialist along with almost 12 members of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent have been tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the IPL franchise to extend its quarantine period in Dubai. The Rajasthan-based franchise is yet to issue a formal statement but one of the sources of PTI in the franchise that the number of positive cases could be as high as 12. The 13th IPL, which was shifted to the UAE due to rising COVID-19 cases in India, is scheduled to commence on November 10.
