On Wednesday, the veteran Ranji cricketer, Rajat Bhatia, who also featured in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad when they went on to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) edition in 2012, decided to announce retirement from all forms of professional cricket with immediate effect.
Bhatia has amassed as many as 6,482 runs and scalped 137 wickets in first-class cricket. He played a crucial role in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy title win in 2008 as he played a crucial knock of unbeaten 139 in the final against Uttar Pradesh. He made his first-class debut in 1999-2000 season for Tamil Nadu. He won the IPL with the KKR in 2012. He featured in 95 IPL games.

In List A cricket, Rajat has scored 3038 runs at an average of 41.05 with 3 centuries under his belt. He has also picked up 93 wickets.
Despite having decent numbers in domestic cricket, Bhatia never managed to find a place in the national squad. But he has had decent success in the IPL.
Rajat Bhatia represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the inaugural edition of the IPL. After three successful years with Delhi Daredevils, Bhatia’s services were bought by KKR during the IPL 2011 auction where he comes out with some brilliant performance under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. Bhatia played a crucial role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL title win in 2012.

Bhatia was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) before the IPL 2014 at a price of ₹1.7 crores. After a couple of years with the Royals, he was picked by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2016 where he played under MS Dhoni. In his 10 years in the IPL, Rajat made a name for himself with his slow bowling and deceptive variations. His last appearance in IPL was in 2017.
