Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar has made some eye-catching choices while naming his all-time IPL greats, and his picks have sparked plenty of discussion among fans. When asked to name the best fast bowler in the Indian Premier League, Patidar went against popular opinion and chose former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn over India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

The call stands out because Bumrah’s IPL record is among the best for any fast bowler in the tournament’s history. Since making his debut for Mumbai Indians in 2013, he has played 146 matches and taken 183 wickets, becoming a key figure in MI’s five title-winning campaigns. Even so, Patidar backed Steyn, who played for several IPL franchises and built a reputation as one of the most fearsome new-ball bowlers in the league.

Patidar also made another bold comparison when he picked Rohit Sharma as the best captain over MS Dhoni. The debate is a familiar one, given Dhoni’s decorated IPL leadership record with Chennai Super Kings and Rohit’s own success with Mumbai Indians. Both have won five IPL titles as skippers, but Patidar leaned towards Rohit in the leadership category.

His other selections followed a similar theme of choosing proven IPL icons. Virat Kohli was named best batter, Faf du Plessis best fielder, Sunil Narine best spinner, AB de Villiers best finisher, and Bumrah the best death bowler in the league.

When it came to his own career highlight, Patidar had no hesitation. He pointed to RCB’s first IPL title in 2025 as the biggest moment of his journey so far. For the Bengaluru skipper, lifting the trophy as captain clearly remains the defining memory of his IPL story.
