Rajeev Shukla Shares Update on Future of IPL 2020

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with all international and domestic matches being canceled.  Due to the current situation in India, former IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla comments on the status of the league.

On Thursday, former Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla said that it is impossible to begin the 13th edition of the IPL after April 15 due to the current situation in India amid coronavirus pandemic across the world. Earlier Scheduled to commence from March 29, the star-studded event was postponed to April 15 amid the ou break of Corona Virus across India.

“I don’t see any preparation, our priority is to fight coronavirus and save people. See it will all depend on the government what decision they will take. We will go by the government decision. We are hearing that lockdown may extend in this situation if you think IPL can happen by April 15 so it seems not possible,” Shukla said.

The former Chairman cum politician was also questioned about the participation of foreign players in the cash-rich event. Shukla said that foreign players cannot travel to India right now as international travel is closed by the Indian authorities. On March 11, the Central government had also suspended all visas to India till April 15.  Later on, the Indian government has implied a national-wide lockdown for 3 weeks as a safety measure to contain the spread of the virus.

Originated in China, the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 1,605,712 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 95,766 people globally. However, as per the latest reports over 356,980 people have successfully recovered after being affected by the deadly virus. The pandemic spread of the virus has affected more than 6,771 people across India taking away more than 228 lives.
