Ramandeep Singh, representing the Kolkata Knight Riders, found himself in a bit of a bind during Match 60 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Eden Gardens on May 11. His actions led to a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct, resulting in a 20 percent fine on his match fees. It was deemed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Acknowledging his mistake, Ramandeep owned up to the transgression and gracefully accepted the penalty imposed by the Match Referee. Such Level 1 breaches adhere to a straightforward protocol, where the Match Referee’s decision stands as final and binding.
Despite this hiccup, Ramandeep showcased his cricketing prowess during the match. He played a crucial unbeaten innings, scoring 17 runs off just eight balls, a contribution that aided KKR in reaching a respectable total of 157 runs.

The game unfolded at the home turf of KKR, where they managed to exhibit a commendable performance once again. The match began with KKR losing the toss and being sent in to bat first. They faced early setbacks with the quick dismissals of their opening batsmen within the initial seven balls.

However, the middle order, led by Venkatesh Iyer’s aggressive 42 off 21 balls, Nitish Rana’s composed 33 off 23 balls, Andre Russell’s quickfire 24 off 14 balls, and Rinku Singh’s handy 20 off 12 balls, stitched together a series of partnerships to propel the team’s innings forward.
This collaborative effort enabled KKR to set a challenging target. Mumbai Indians, in response, made a promising start but soon found themselves struggling against the spinners as the match progressed. Despite a solid start, MI faltered as key batsmen like Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma fell to the opposition’s bowling attack.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was expected to anchor the innings, struggled to score freely and managed only 11 runs off 14 balls, which further dented MI’s chances. Although Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir provided some resistance towards the end, it wasn’t enough to salvage the match for MI. Eventually, they fell short by 18 runs, finishing at 139/8, handing KKR a well-deserved victory.
