On Thursday, the Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), has appointed former India spinner Ramesh Powar for the position of head coach of India women’s cricket team prior to their tour to England. Meanwhile, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by Madan Lal has interviewed as many as 8 candidates, which also included 4 male and female candidates as well.
Notably, Powar coached the team before WV Raman in 2018 but he had stepped down after a rift with Mithali Raj, the Team India ODI captain. After him, WV Raman took the responsibility and had a fair share of success with the Indian Women. The team has reached the final of the T20 World Cup last year as well.

On Wednesday, Madan Lal and Sulakshana Naik took interviews of the head coach WV Raman, former coach Ramesh Powar and former India players Ajay Ratra and Hrishikesh Kanitkar as well. On the other hand, female candidates Mamtha Maben, Devika Palshikaar, former chairman of selectors Hemlatha Kala and former assistant coach Suman Sharma were interviewed on Thursday by the CAC as well.
While as many as 35 people had applied for the post, WV Raman was an automatic entry in the interview. Meanwhile, CAC chief Madan Lal on Wednesday had revealed to the PTI that all four male candidates have given interview quite well. The interviews continued for 30 minutes for each candidate as well.

However, the first assignment of the newly-appointed head coach Ramesh Power will be the England tour where the Indian women cricket team will play a Test, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is as well. The one-off Test will start in Bristol on June 16. The selectors are expected to announce the squad for the upcoming England tour very soon and the team is likely to fly to England along with the men’s cricket team as well after completing the mandatory quarantine period here in India.
